The social dimension of domesticating technology: Interactions between older adults, caregivers, and robots in the home

• Care-robot gerontechnology in the homes of older adults is a novel test site. Technology used – domesticated different practical, symbolic and cognitive ways. Domestication technology theory should be expanded to include social dimension. Robot can have multiple effects on care networks relationships. In this article we look at home as an arena for by exploring how robots technological care-systems become part adults’ lives. We investigate domestication robot context what Scandinavia called “welfare technology” (relating terms “gerontechnology” “Active Assisted Living,”) that especially aims mitigate adults´ challenges with living their own homes. Through our case study, system eWare, where flowerpot “Tessa” works symbiosis sensor “SensaraCare.” Together, they create socio-technical ecosystem involving adult end-users home, formal caregivers (e.g. healthcare workers), informal (normally family members). analyze ethnographic fieldwork through theoretical concept “domestication technology,” focusing established three-dimensional model includes symbolic, levels analysis. found bonds ways using same were crucial, so supplement suggesting fourth dimension, which term dimension technology.
